Red White and Night
4th of July Cocktail

Single serving (non-sparkling):
  • 1 ounce simple syrup
  • 1 ounce fresh-squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 ounces Night Harvest Cabernet Sauvignon
  • 2 ounces vodka
  • Powdered sugar
  • Blueberries or black raspberries

Pour all liquid ingredients over ice in a highball glass. Stir thoroughly. Roll 3 berries in powdered sugar and lay on top to garnish.

Batch for 1 Quart Soda Siphon (sparkling):
  • 5 ounces simple syrup
  • 5 ounces fresh-squeezed lemon juice
  • 10 ounces Night Harvest Cabernet Sauvignon
  • 10 ounces vodka
  • Powdered sugar
  • Blueberries or black raspberries

Pour all liquid ingredients into soda siphon and close siphon. Charge with two cartridges of CO2. Serve tall over ice in a highball glass. Roll 3 berries in powdered sugar and place on top to garnish.

Mixologist’s Notes: This party drink was designed with the classic 4th of July BBQ in mind. It’s easy to make in one serving as a non-sparkling drink, but I prefer it prepared in a batch and serve as a sparkling soda. (You could also batch it in a pitcher.) The batched recipe makes 30 ounces with which you can fill a quart (32 ounce) soda siphon. Charge it with two canisters of CO2 to give it the right amount of bubbles. Plus it’s a lot more fun to use the siphon! The recipe itself is crisp, well-balanced and refreshing, with the wine’s berry flavors mixing delightfully in lemonade.
